User Interface Design

We're really good with pencil and paper. Explore different ways of how your app idea might work before you spend lots of money developing the wrong thing.

So you've got an app idea ...

Awesome! So how do you get from your idea to having your app in the store making you millions? Hire a developer and start coding straight away? Wrong.

Ideas need to time to grow and evolve. If you resist the urge to start coding and force yourself to start working through your ideas on paper first then you will be pleasantly surprised when it starts to take you in directions you never thought it would and how problems can be seen quickly and dealt with. This means you're only overhead cost is the paper you used to sketch it on ... and not you're expensive developer.

There's also a fine line between too much design up front and thats where our knowledge and experience comes through. We realise you need to mockup things before you get started but we also know when to get real and to start coding. We can help you get and move beyond this stage.

Draw upon our years of software and interface design experience and let us help you mockup your awesome app idea into something real. Filmmakers don't just pick up a camera and start shooting ... there's lots of planning, scripting, storyboarding and production done before one frame is shot. Why should software be any different?

Why go dangerous?

At Dangerous Pixels, we have over 25 years combined application development experience (some of us remember floppy disks :). As a result, we know a thing or two about designing software. We know software. We use software. We know what works and what doesn't.

Pencil and Paper

All these fancy gadgets are great, but we're dangerously old school and believe none of them beat pencil and paper for making mockups come alive. Stop wasting time by talking about abstract concepts in meetings where everyone says they're on the same page but are secretly thinking about different things. We can help you get real .. fast.

Interface design skills

We've been designing and coding interfaces for a long time for many platforms and know what works and how real users use things. we know when to show what and when to hide it to make the users not have to think and marvel at how the app "just knows what you want to do" .... (which only happens when you do proper design - behind the magic is a lot of work).

Be prepared and informed

When you just have an idea, thats all it really is. It's too abstract. If you relish and explore the concept stage then you will find it is the most powerful part of any software development lifecycle. It's where you're most flexible, your can easily change direction, try out different paths and see where it leads you. There could be alot more to your original idea than you thought, and you'll be in a better position to see just what has to be done in order to make your idea a reality, and be able to get a more realistic quote on how much it will cost to code your app. Be armed with real designs.
